Horticulture Programme Manager

Recognising Wairoa’s strong land, climate and location advantages and access to readily available water, Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa Trust, Hawkes Bay Regional Council, Ngāti Pāhauwera Development Trust and Wairoa District Council are collaborating to enable the conversion of larger amounts of high-value flat land into horticulture. Developed to its full potential, horticulture could transform the Wairoa economy and its town providing farmers/landowners better returns, creating meaningful employment opportunities for locals and over-time help support an eco-system of Wairoa-based services that traditionally collect around horticulture. The development of horticulture will utilise the latest technology and incorporate sustainable environmental practices.  

Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa Trust seeks a Horticulture Programme Manager for this exciting opportunity of planning, leading, managing and delivering the vision of the Wairoa Horticulture Project. This position will work closely with the Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa Trust Board to finalise the overall horticulture strategy ensuring that outcomes, schedules, relationships and interdependencies are proactively managed. Key responsibilities include facilitating the securing of land for a trial orchard, formalising partnership agreements with commercial partners, stakeholder management, establishing a corporate structure and the development of a training and workforce programme.

The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager with a history of successfully delivering projects in a business environment and will ideally have had some exposure to the New Zealand horticulture industry, public sector funding processes and Maori agribusiness. Essential skills required for this position include commercial acumen, strong communication and relationship management skills and financial/budgeting experience along with a dynamic and enthusiastic personality.
